Wear plates

Fields of use

Components, which are exposed to wear and where the operating temperature is less than 225°C, such as roadworks machinery, dumper trucks, scrap containers, containers, shovels, knives, handling equipment, crushers, sieves.

Description

Wear plates are low-alloy, hardened steel sheets. They can be welded, bent, drilled and cut. Wear plates are not intended for further thermal treatments. For most uses, the wear resistance becomes greater with increasing hardness, which places higher demands on the processing machinery and tools during processing.

Products

Stahl-Contor has Quard from NLMK Clabec, Belgium on stock. Quard is a wearplate with an excellent surface finish, outstanding flatness, narrow thickness tolerances and homogeneous structure. You benefit from a better workability in welding, cold forming, cutting and machining reduced setup of tools.

In addition we further supply you with Hardox wearplates.

Quard from NLMK Clabecq
Starting with the giant blast furnaces of NLMK through to the state-of-the-art heat treatment and straightening machinery and many years of experience in the manufacturing of thin sheets, Quard is a product with superior machinability.
1. An evenness as per EN10029 or greater, possible thanks to the state-of-the-art heat treatment machinery and roller straightening.
2. An outstanding surface quality thanks to the unique manufacturing procedure with Quarto rolling stand and continual finishing mill in one processing line.
3. Narrow thickness tolerances due to the finishing mills in special thin sheet rollers, which exceed the relevant standards without any problems.
4. A low-alloy, optimised chemical composition in connection with a purity of cast far better than the standard, made possible thanks to the latest equipment at NLMK in vacuum degassing and continuous casting technology.

Hardening

Hardening is a heat treatment, during which the structure becomes imbalanced after the heat treatment.
Hardening is a procedure involving the quenching of tool/wear-resistant steels with annealing at lower temperatures. Objective: Hardness and wear resistance with adjusted toughness.
With high cooling speeds, the austenite is converted into martensite. In the case of wear plates, this occurs through quenching in water. Martensite is a type of crystal, which develops when the lattice transformation of austenite takes place with dissolved carbon at a low temperature and the carbon cannot be diffused. In the body-centred cubic lattice of the alpha iron, the carbon atom normally has no place. This body-centred cubic lattice is distorted, no longer has consistent gliding planes and can only be formed with difficulty, as a result. Every deformation is faced with a great resistance (high degree of hardness).
